Lucifer Movie Review
Cast: Director Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier
Director: Prithviraj Sukumaran
Review: higher to reign in hell than serve in heaven, wrote John Milton in Paradise Lost. identical quote is contend within the finish credits of actor-turned-filmmaker Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer. In a way, it’s solely fitting for a moving-picture show that evolves against the backcloth of politics and has taken some references from modern socio-political situation. Scripted by Murali Gopy, that abundant should be expected. However, for many components, the moving-picture show could be a huge shift from previous Murali Gopy films with lofty ideas or concepts, with director Prithviraj banking on some tried-and-tested formula to gift a simple film that has each vogue and substance. The film kicks off with the death of Chief Minister PK Ramdas (Sachin Khedekar), exposing his political party’s ugly aspect as they scamper for a successor.
incoming as if to help them is Ramdas’ scheming in-law officer with a suggestion to supply funds. His plan is to seize power by putting in his puppets as he pushes Z class medicine into the country. Standing in his means, however, writer Nedumpally (Mohanlal) – the trusty aide of the late Ramdas. The moving-picture show follows Bobby’s schemes to taint writer to oust him from the image, however he pushes too way to reveal another aspect of writer. What the film’s couple of writer and director gets right ar its characters. every of them shuttling between smart and evil, weak and robust, trustworthy and deceptive.
this is applicable not only for its leads – Mohanlal, Vivek Oberoi and Manju Warrier – however conjointly the various supporting characters like the truth-seeking social media crusader Govardhan contend by Indrajith, the political descendent Jatin Das by Tovino Thomas and conjointly Stephen’s intimate Aloshy, essayed by Kalabhavan Shajon. Credit to Prithviraj for not enjoying to the gallery within the half. The results of the restraint is that content and characters get their due. Mohanlal’s writer Nedumpally gets some stylish mass moments within the half, with references to his time hits like Narasimham, Irupathaam Noottaandu, Pulimurugan and Ravanaprabhu. However, the director does not wait and see within the 0.5|last half|half} and makes it a celebration for Mohanlal fans – with the latter half being punctuated by punch dialogues and bullets. and that is conjointly wherever the film suffers, creating it a touch tedious.
Mohanlal’s writer although lacks the energy of a number of his mass avatars, and instead could be a dour-faced stoic figure – creating it less unforgettable for a few once walking out, of the theatres. that is in all probability wherever Vivek Oberoi scores in his Mollywood debut. With a job that has enough meat to perform, the movie industry actor aces the role of the antagonist and will create a fitting villain faveolate against Mohanlal. Sai Kumar too is another standout performing artist because the shrewd Mahesha Varma. Manju Warrier encompasses a important character however somehow does not quite her due. The scene wherever she decides to lightweight her father’s mound and wherever she confronts Vivek Oberoi ar the highlights.
Indrajith and Tovino too have key characters and play their components well to stay the story moving. Zayed Masood’s assist to writer although might cue you of aid that an exact Ali Imran got throughout his operation in Moonam Mura. Deepak Dev’s music might alright be another character within the film, coming into the fray and intensifying the fun component at places. However, overuse of the background score becomes jarring every now and then too and takes aloof from the viewing expertise. Sujit Vasudev’s frames – particularly within the scenes set in Nedumpally and conjointly Stephen’s close-ups may be visually stimulating for fans. Lucifer could be a ‘mass entertainer’ that’s guaranteed to please the fans and has enough going for to create it an interesting heroic tale in addition. And except the necessary Stan Lee, correction, Anthony Perumbavoor anaglyph, be careful for Stephen’s second avatar within the film.
Plus Points :
Mohan Lal leads from the front and carries the film on his shoulders. The method he portrays his loyal role and showcases excellent emotions within the climax speaks volumes of Mohan Lal’s acting artistry. the fundamental political theme of the film is incredibly spectacular. Manju Warrier within the role of CM’s girl is sort of spectacular. She is associate old thespian and her role brings a great deal of depth to the film. Vivek Oberoi is excellent within the role of a nasty guy. The method his transformation from smart to dangerous ahead of his married person has been showcased quite well.
Minus Points :
Though Prithvi rule selected a decent story, his narration may be a bit slow. He showcased Mohan Lal in a very excellent manner and wins the hearts of his fans except for others, the narration appearance jaded in several areas. The film had smart scope for a lot of drama however the director disregarded on that and added gratuitous scenes in each the halves. sure crucial emotions within the last half haven’t been elevated well. there’s serious South Dravidian flavor within the film and this may be a priority for the Telugu audience.
On the total, Lucifer could be a passable political drama that has some hiccups here and there. The theme of the film and performances area unit high notch however the narration and pace area unit a touch slow in places. Also, the serious South Dravidian flavor won’t go well with the Telugu audience. this can be a significant moving-picture show and every one people who like political dramas with sensible star solid can just like the film. except for others, it’s simply a below average watch this weekend.
